Fring – Free Mobile Calls, Free Video Calls, Live Chat On Mobile

Since the world as we know it is not going to slow down, so technology must keep up the pace. Having Internet access and apps on the mobile phone allows the user to roam freely while making a call instead of being tied to a desktop, laptop, or notebook. Competing for a share in the VoIP market can be difficult to break into. Fring, which has been around since 2007, is a free service that allows peer-to-peer video chatting and even instant messaging via Internet technology in real time to other mobile networks via the IPhone or IPod Touch.

It supports a variety of numerous networks including AIM, Skype, MSN Messenger, Twitter, ICQ, SIP, Google Talk, and Yahoo Messenger.  A service of Fring that you wouldn’t normally find on other VoIP providers is that landlines can also be used to make calls from SkypeIn and Out accounts and make voice calls to both the Fring and Skype address books. It can also receive incoming Skype video calls.

Since it is free, it can be accessed and then downloaded at ITunes. For instant messaging, both sender and recipient have to have the Fring app on their mobile phones. The only other drawback of using Fring is that it only works in Wi-Fi hotspots, making it difficult to gauge where and when you can actually use it. In the past, it used to be that you could work around this difficulty using a 3G Unrestrictor on a jailbroken IPhone.

Expensive, yes, but well worth the cost to most mobile phone users. When using this, you can make unlimited Skype calls to Canada and the United States for just $3 per month. But there is no need to do that anymore since Fring has recently added 3G support for users of Yahoo and AIM to Skype, MSN Messenger, ICQ, SIP, Twitter, and Google Talk. Why pay more for this than you have to?
